Disassembly of the hydraulic cylinders: Remove the cylinder from the machine. Open the cylinder cover with bolts or screws and remove the piston from the cylinder. Now loosen the inlet valves to reduce pressure and slide the piston rod out to separate it.

Hydraulic Cylinder Inspection – This is a crucial stage of hydraulic cylinder rebuild, where you need to perform a visual inspection to find out the main problem. If the cylinder bore is scored or the piston pins are bent, the system requires a qualified hydraulic repair shop. Should the shafts or bolts be intact, the seals are most likely broken, causing excessive hydraulic fluid leakage.

Hydraulic Cylinders Repack Seals: Using the seal kit and repacking instructions for your cylinder, carefully dislodge the old seals from their positions and fit the new ones in place of the old ones.

In this final stage of repair, lubricate the seals with oil and gently slide the piston back into the cylinder system. Also, make sure the inlet valves are loose so the piston slides in smoothly. Lastly, before reconnecting the cylinder to your equipment, be sure to check the hoses on the hydraulic cylinders for leaks and conditions.

There is a possibility that the piston rings could be damaged.

Whenever you do any cylinder repair work, keep your repair tool kit ready to go. Typically, a tool kit consists of lubrication, new shaft seals with O-rings, and a new hydraulic cylinder rod.

How To Align Piston Rings

Installing the piston rings is an essential and critical step when building a race engine. This step involves lining up each piston ring and applying a combination that will seal your combustion pressure onto the said piston. This will also help to scrape the oil right out of your cylinders so that it will not pollute the engine’s combustion process and will also transfer heat from the piston to the cylinder wall. You can start lining up your rings and installing them with just your fingers.

Place the expansion rings in the oil scraper ring to help keep them in place. This will clean the oil from the cylinder walls as the piston moves down. Make sure the ends of the snap rings are mounted correctly.

Place each scraper ring over a screw, installing it closest to the top of the first piston. Allow the scraper ring to overlap the spring ring joint a minimum of 1 inch (2.54 cm).

Install the second scraper ring, allowing it to overlap the other side of the snap ring opening.

Work in assembly line fashion to install the rings in order on each piston. This will help speed up the process and avoid mistakes. Also learn How to Bleed a Hydraulic Cylinder here.
